Orphan Education Sponsorship Program
A significant part of the OVC Project is Education Support.
It is our belief that education is a fundamental right for children and that through basic education a community can begin to develop and its people can be empowered to improve their quality of life.
The generosity of individuals throughout Australia, UK and USA has enabled around 550 orphans and vulnerable children to receive an education in 2007.
This is a significant contribution to a child's life and along with receiving an education the knowledge that someone out there cares and is praying for them gives a child an incredible amount of self-worth.
With an education a child can not only be an asset to themselves, their families and their communities but to the country of Zambia itself.
Due to the HIV/AIDS pandemic there is a shortage of able bodied workers and therefore a number of goods and services are imported from neighbouring countries.
The goal of the OVC Project is to sponsor 500 children to attend Mwandi Basic School (grades 1 - 9), 100 children to attend Sesheke secondary School and 7 children in tertiary education.
There were 550 total students sponsored in 2007.
The annual sponsorship amount covers fees, uniforms and books.
