The United Church of Zambia Mwandi Consistory
The Paris Evangelical Missionary society (PEMS) entered Zambia (Then Northern Rhodesia) in 1884.
They established Mwandi Mission in the same year. The primary mission for the society was to preach the Gospel.
Due to varied needs, they also established schools for education and a hospital for health care.
On 16th Jan1965, the Church of Barotseland (born out of PEMS) joined other churches to form the United Church of Zambia (UCZ).
Mwandi consistory falls under the Western Province of Zambia; the latter is one of the ten presbyteries of the UCZ.
The UCZ is that largest Protestant Church in the country which covers all nine provinces of Zambia.
Mwandi consistory has nine congregations with two preaching points spread among the village of Mwandi.
Our calling is to preach the gospel and to nurture the Christians through Christian education.
Christian Nurture takes place through several groups like men's, Christian fellowship, Woman's Christian fellowship, Youth Fellowships, Sunday schools and Choirs.
In addition the preaching the Gospel, Mwandi consistory oversees the work of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children project which provides Educational, Social and Nutritional support to children of Mwandi.
The Agriculture Projects which keeps poultry, Pigs, Dairy cows and vegetables.
We also oversee a pre-school, sewing centre and a library.
We work with Mwandi Mission hospital and Mwandi Basic School.
All these activities seek to minister to the Mwandi community and its needs.
In other words we are involved in a holistic mission that aims at supporting, equipping, enabling, empowering and healing the community for community building and development.
Each of these activities needs growth and sustainability.
Mwandi UCZ welcomes volunteers to come and work at Mwandi UCZ Mission for short term to long term placements on any of our projects.
